My Quiet Time this morning (my God-prepare-me-for-the-day-devotion-time) was from Oswald Chambers' "My Utmost For His Highest", a book compiled after Mr. Chambers' death by his wife using writings, sermons, etc from her husband's archives. God has used this book many times to speak to me and especially this summer.
As I have said before -- post-surgery time can be painfully lonely. We are house-bound for the most part (though that is improving as Mason tolerates transferring and being active longer and longer each day!); and have not been able to attend church; and well, it is summer so everyone is busy with their own families. We have had other post-surgery seasons (as recently as last summer....), and this is pretty much status quo for them. So you'd think I would have learned the lesson God is trying to teach...but alas, I fear, I am a slow learner.
Today, however, I hear it....Mr. Chambers pointed out this morning that God will remove our friends one by one until HE takes their place. Until our every thought is of HIM first, second and third. That our decisions are made throughout the day with only GOD in mind!
Wow. Do you understand? I do not believe this is saying we HAVE to live a lonely, friendless existence. But IF we are depending on the people in our lives, rather than seeking God, then we will never fully realize God's presence in our lives. It is only when we seek God steadily that we will SEE God, that His presence will be revealed in our lives.
It may take a while for me to wrap my mind completely around this, but I had to share. Because when I have an "Aha!" moment...and realize this season might not just be for Mason's healing...but for our spiritual growth also....well, that is always a blessing!
