I was perusing a photographer's personal blog and she pointed out that our children's photos should have a watermark to prevent other's copying and using them...so I've done this...what do you think? Is it necessary? Help!!

Definitely. I watermark special photos and save/post them at a lower resolution so they look crappy if anyone tries to use them without permission. ....when I remember. !!! AND, Dear Friend, THAT is an AMAZING photo! (...of course she is an amazing child!) Love you!
